Last night, 17 members of Rochester’s documentary community gathered at WXXI for a night that felt like a real turning point for RocDocs. We officially unveiled our new branding, our mission, vision, and values, and our new website. These have been coming together behind the scenes for months but it was great to see everyone’s reactions and genuine excitement.
But the night wasn’t just about us. Todd McCammon from WXXI joined us to talk about the ways WXXI is working to support local filmmakers and expand access to content and resources. He also gave us a first look at WXXI Studios, a new set of rentable spaces at WXXI built for content creation: podcasts, shows, and more. If you’ve been looking for a place to record or produce your next project, it’s worth checking out.
Not only is WXXI opening up their doors with these spaces but they are also expanding access to their distribution channels for filmmakers and creators. The plan is to make things easier for your stories to make it onto different apps, services, and broadcasts.
The energy in the room was exactly what we hoped for when we started this: a group of people who care about documentary storytelling in Rochester, excited to build something together.
What’s next for RocDocs
We’re looking for more people to get involved. If you’ve got a work-in-progress, an idea for running a workshop, or even some events or grants that you’ve heard about that we don’t already have on the site…please reach out.
